Where To Stay and Save in Exotic Bangkok Thailand

Quality budget hotels in Bangkok are available throughout the city offering friendly services and comfortable rooms. So it is not difficult at all to find a cheap budget hotel in Bangkok whether you want to stay in the center of Sukhumvit district for it's popular nightlife or MBK shopping center for a shopping spree.

Bangkok Thailand is one of my favorite destinations to recommend my friends and family to explore for a memorable vacation. Another reason why I recommend vacationing in Bangkok is because you can have a great time without spending lots of money on hotels in Bangkok (below I'll show you where to get the best discount hotel rates).

We all know that one of the biggest expense in a vacation is the cost of hotel rooms. We all want a nice clean room with great service in a great location without overpaying. If it's discount hotels you want in Bangkok, it's discount hotels you will find with no problems at all.

The budget accommodations I recommend here are hotels that I have personally stayed in previously for writing up hotel reviews. All of them cost a little over 1000 baht per night just $33USD. Though there are many cheap hotels in Bangkok under 1000 baht to choose from too. But most of those hotels are further away from the city's center yet still and exceptional value.

I've stayed in many budget hotels throughout Bangkok. The ones here are chosen because of the value as well as the convenient locations right in the heart of Bangkok with easy access to mass transportation and main attractions. And that's really one of the great things about visiting Bangkok, it is so easy to get around and explore this fascinating city.

Basic Travel Information in Bangkok

1. The Bedrooms Boutiques Hotel

  • Rates start from 1400THB ($40 USD)

The Bedrooms Boutique Hotel in Bangkok is a real true value. In my opinion the only reason why they have budget rates is because they are located on the far end of a very popular stretch of road called Sukhumvit. If they were more centrally located it would cost at least twice to three times as much.

The rooms here are very clean and modern. Out of all the hotels I recommend here the size of their rooms are the biggest and most comortable. Flat screen TVs and DVD players in the room complete the modern flair. Plus for added security there is an in room electronic safe for your valuables.

Location wise it's a bit far from the touristy places. But this is not a problem because there is a Sky Train station only ten minutes away by foot. From the Sky Train you can get to about 50% to 70% of the main attractions in Bangkok. But that doesn't mean there isn't anything to do around the immediate vicinity.

There is a huge mall called Carrefour, part of a French chain that you can explore. Check out the food courts inside for a taste of international cuisines.

If walking around a mall is not your cup of tea then check out the club scene and trendy shops in Ekkamai and Thong Lo, just a few stops away on the Sky Train.

One of the biggest perks for me since I'm an Internet junkie is that there is free Wi-Fi coverage throughout the entire building.

2. The Oasis Inn Bankgok

  • Rates start from 1400THB ($41 USD)

I found and stayed at the Oasis Inn when my brother had to get some minor surgery at Bumrungrad International Hospital, just a block away.

If you want peace and quiet then Oasis Inn is the right choice for you. This area is quiet because it's mainly a mix of residential and commercial hotels catering to medical tourist and vacationers.

So does this mean you're going to be bored out of your mind. Of course not. I would never recommend such a place in the middle of nowhere. Just 15 minutes away by foot is the main road of Sukhumvit. Nearby is Nana Entertainment Plaza and as well as loads of shops and international restaurants that will keep you busy every night.

The hotel is located between two Sky Train Stations called Ploen Chit and Nana. Avoid taking the taxi during rush hour, trust me. Sukhumvit road is a major thoroughfare and a highway entrance is very close by.

The rooms here are very quaint and comfortable. When I was there I felt as if I was in a hotel in an island resort Phuket or Koh Samui. Maybe it's because of all the palm trees and foliage surrounding the hotel, giving a tranquil feeling throughout the property. If you'll be sharing a room make sure you book the deluxe room as the standard is small.

One big perk is free Wi-Fi in the coffee shop where you can enjoy a great cup of tea.

3. Varindavan Park Service Apartment

  • Rates start from 1350THB ($39 USD)

Don't let part of the name Service Apartment scare you off. In Bangkok there are accommodations that double as apartments and hotels and very common. So even though it has an apartment name, the rooms here are fully furnished and you have the same hotel service such as daily housekeeping.

I actually stayed in the Varindavan Park for a year because my company put me up here. Eventually through the years I've come back and recommended my friends to stay here as well.

This hotel is located in the Ekkamai area of Bangkok, a trendy fashionable up and coming location popular with local well to do Thais. Nearby is Thong Lo or Sukhumvit 55 an area where you can find excellent bars and restaurants. And because this area is where successful Thais live, the cost of food and other goods and services are slightly higher. But believe me it's still affordable by western standards.

4. Samran Place Hotel in Bangkok Review

Room rates start from 1000THB ($29 USD

If you like bargain shopping then Samran Place hotel is a great choice for you. This hotel is strategically located on the edge of Bangkok's best shopping malls. I'm talking about places such as Siam Paragon, Pratunum Market, MBK and the computer geeks paradise Pantip Plaza.

And just a short train ride away is the biggest open air market called Chatuchak Weekend Market that is easily reached by the train station just 5 minute short walk from the hotel. You can find almost anything here for sale from pets to furniture.

The rooms in Samran Place are very basic, so don't expect luxury. But if you're like me and your only concern is cleanliness then don't worry because the rooms are clean and well maintained by the friendly hardworking housekeeping crew.

There is a free breakfast included in the rate but to be honest the food isn't great. For a great foodies journey I recommend taking a 10 minute walk to the Platinum Mall's food court located on the top floor. For about $2 dollars you can enjoy great traditional Thai dishes as well as excellent regional dishes from neighboring countries.

5. Royal Asia Lodge in Bangkok Review

  • Rates start from 1300THB ($37 USD)

The Royal Asia Lodge is located off a major strip of road called Sukhumvit. It is a popular commercial, residential and nightlife area to the expat community in Bangkok.

And that's the only real plus about this hotel's location. But don't worry. If you want to get around to the rest of the main cultural attractions and sights you can hop on the BTS Sky Train. It'll take 10 minutes to walk to the nearest station. However the hotel offers a free tuk tuk service which is a major plus!

As I mentioned earlier, the area surrounding the hotel is mainly commercial, so you'll find office buildings and high end hotels along Sukhumvit Road. What you will also find is that the Royal Asia Lodge is smacked right in between two of Bangkok's most infamous nightlife hot-spots called, Nana Entertainment Plaza and Soi Cowboy. Both of these places are filled with filled go-go bars and is a major draw for many tourist all over the world.

Tips for Finding Better Hotel Deals in Bangkok

The hotel rates you see here are researched from a booking agency I've used for many years. The company name is called Agoda.com and they are based in Thailand. You can check current room rates as well as up to date guest reviews on their website. They offer hard to find unpublished discount hotel rates and I've never had a problem with their service. Even though I recommend Agoda I also suggest taking a look at other reliable Bangkok hotel reservation agencies so you can make price comparisons for the hotel you are interested in.
