Baiyoke Sky Hotel

Bangkok's city landscape looms the tallest hotel in the Kingdom of Thailand, the Baiyoke Sky Hotel. This unique high rise building boasts not only as Bangkok's greatest modern landmark but as an affordable hotel for budget travelers to luxury presidential suites for those with deep wallets. Baiyoke Sky Hotel is ideal for vacationers who want to stay in Bangkok's popular hectic and exciting Pratunam district.

Located in Bangkok's famed Pratunam district, the Baiyoke Sky Hotel is surrounded by a popular market brimming with wholesale clothing shops geared to buyers purchasing in bulk for resale. But you are always welcome to purchase from these shops as a casual buyer. Just keep in mind that you can haggle for better prices. Here's an article on how to bargain in Thai in shopping markets. Better discounts are always offered if you buy more than one item.

And if you're looking for upscale Bangkok malls and departments store well then you are not too far from those at all. Matter of fact the Baiyoke offers a free ride on a shuttle van to Siam Paragon, MBK Shopping Center and Siam Square.

The Baiyoke Sky Hotel is 88 stories tall with an observation deck on the 77th floor and a revolving observation point on the 84th floor with breathtaking panoramas of the cityscape. So don't forget your camera. For better a better pictures of Bangkok from above it is better to head up to the 84th floor because there is no glass between you like it is on the 77th floor.

Tickets to Baiyoke's observation deck cost 120 baht for adults and 60 baht for children. In my opinion it should be free for guests. However if you buy lunch or dinner in any of the restaurants in the hotel you can get free admission. That in itself might be worth it since the Baiyoke has an excellent international buffet selection.

Overall this is an extremely popular hotel in Bangkok and not only do I like it but there are many positive reviews about them. You can read more guest reviews as well as find very affordable room rates at Agoda.com, a popular hotel booking agency.

How to Get to Baiyoke Sky Hotel From the Airport

If you are carrying a lot of luggage you should take taxi to get there. A taxi ride including tolls and the 50 baht airport surcharge to Baiyoke Sky Hotel cost around 300 baht, depending on traffic. Just be prepared to sit in traffic though, especially in the afternoons because the streets surrounding the hotel is a traffic nightmare.

However if you can easily manage your luggage I recommend taking the Airport Rail Link to Ratchaprarop Station. As of writing the promotional fare is 15 baht from the airport and the ride takes about 30 minutes.

From the station it is a short walk to the front steps of the hotel.

My stay in a Superior Room at the Baiyoke Hotel

The Baiyoke is 309 meters high so it is a very tall hotel. The lobby is located on the 18th floor as well as several dining areas, a Family Mart and a cafe plus a pub and small golf range. The building is sectioned off into zones, the standard zone (affordable superior rooms), sky zone (a little bit pricier), and space zone (big and expensive rooms).

Even though the sky zone and space zone cost more you may still find cheaper room rates or even better last minute rates at the Baiyoke Sky Hotel. To find these deals I recommend a hotel reservation agency based in Bangkok called Agoda.com. I find that they offer better prices than booking through the hotel directly or for any other hotel in Bangkok. Another company to find discounts is Rakuten Travel Inc.

I stayed in a superior room just for a few days because to be frank I am a bit afraid of heights and being so high up kind of made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Thank god Bangkok is not a windy city.

The superior room I was given was quite spacious for 2 people. The bathroom in itself is quite large and in good condition with a powerful water pressure. The only thing is the carpet is a bit stained and it could use either a good scrubbing or at least be redone. What I like most is that there is a closet space for luggage.

Television channels had mostly foreign stations with English speak shows and news channels.

The Baiyoke is a great place to rest your head after a long day of exploring Bangkok. And when you are back at the hotel there's plenty of activities and you sometimes you won't even really have to get out of the hotel. There is a small swimming pool and an adequate gym both located on the 20th floor. A small Family Mart can is on the 18th floor lobby so you can purchase drinks and snacks so you won't need to step out of the hotel or raid the over-priced mini-bar.

Staying here even just for a few days was quite fun even though I am afraid of heights. It's definitely a unique skyscraper and there really are not that many in the city save for the Chang Building.

The Baiyoke Sky Hotel is a very well planned and designed hotel in a very good location for exploring Bangkok and it was a real pleasure to review.
