The Amora Neoluxe in Bangkok is a new hotel in the heart of Bangkok's shopping and nightlife districts. Just a year old, the Neoluxe is located just a little bit down Sukhumvit Soi 31. It is an ideal location for everyone who enjoys shopping in Bangkok. For men (and even women today) the Neoluxe hotel is not too far from the red light districts of Soi Cowboy and Nana. And though the hotel is located in an area known for 'oily massages' targeted to men, there is no sense of seediness around the hotel.

I would not consider the Neoluxe as a budget hotel however, though to some it most it might be. As far as I can tell for now their usual rack rate hovers around 3500THB ($115USD) for a standard room, which is a superior room. It is quite common for new hotels in Bangkok to keep their room rates cheaper for a little while to attract guests.

Normally when I make my hotel reviews in Bangkok I usually choose hotels in the 1500 Baht ($50USD). Because most hotels in Bangkok with that price range are a real bargain. However, I found the Amora Neoluxe Hotel through my favorite discount hotel reservation agency Agoda.com and saw that they were offering a 50% off deal for a Neoluxe superior room, which came out to around 1800THB including taxes and a free buffet breakfast ($57USD).

Needless to say, with such a big discount for a superior room I jumped at the offer and made a booking for a single night to make this review. And I'm glad I did because it was money well spent. The location is very ideal for exploring Bangkok since the Amora Neoluxe is close to the Phrom Phong Sky Train station.

Though Neoluxe is noted as a 4 star hotel I would give it 3 to 3.5 stars. Most of the stars go towards the quality, cleanliness and guest amenities offered by the hotel. However, the service although adequate, is not enough in my humble opinion to top it at 4 stars. But who needs over the top service anyway? Personally I prefer not to be pampered.

How to get to the Amora Neoluxe Hotel from Suvarnabhumi Airport

If you do not have a lot of luggage and arriving in Suvarnabhumi airport before 11pm I suggest taking the Airport Express Rail Link which stops service a little after 11:20pm. Purchase a fare for the city line. It only cost 45THB and will make its final stop at a Sky Train station called Phaya Thai. From there, take the Sky Train to Phrom Phong BTS station. Once you get there take exit #5 stairway and keep walking about 5 minutes until you reach Sukhumvit Soi 31 and make a right and walk another few minutes and you will find the Hotel.

If you are traveling with too much luggage or arriving after 11pm take a public taxi. It should cost approximately 325THB including highway tolls and the mandatory 50THB airport surcharge.

Room 408 - A Neoluxe Superior Room

I was given a room on the 4th floor which is entirely non-smoking. Once I entered the room and glanced over everything I was already impressed. Starting with the bathroom there is a bathtub and Kohler bath fixtures in side. A bathtub is a real rarity for budget hotels in Bangkok and then I just realized that I'm not exactly in a budget grade hotel.

My room's floor was nice too. It was made of real wood treated like teak instead and felt solid and good on the feet. You do get a real sense of Thai style. And then you look at the panel just right above the desk and you will see that this is one hotel prepared for the techo-geek. There are all sorts of outlets to connect your notebook computer to the room's large flat screen television including a sound system. There was also a lot of television channels filled with news and entertainment including shows for children.

The Amora Neoluxe does have free Internet Wi-Fi, however I felt that the connection was a bit slow even though the wireless router was not too far from my room. And the entire room is wired to one main control panel, located next to the left side of the bed. So you can control every light in the room including the air conditioning as well as the do not disturb sign with one touch of the finger.

The bed is very comfortable and the pillows were so fluffy that one is all you need for a very comfortable nights rest. And even though my room was facing the main Soi the windows did a great job keeping the noise out. There is a decent sized closet complete with an umbrella, bathrobes and slippers. The electronic safe is big enough to fit a 15" notebook computer.

If there was one negative thing to say about the Amora Neoluxe Hotel then it would be about the breakfast which was included with the room rate. It is buffet style but the choices were very limited for a hotel of their caliber. It may be because the space is limited but they could do a little better. Overall there was only about 5 hot food choices, a small salad and fruit bar. You can order eggs cooked to your preference. I had mine scrambled but I think the cook was just too liberal with the salt.

Of course my salty scrambled eggs were easily overlooked since I got a really good discount for a superior room at the Amora Neoluxe. And the location in central Bangkok's Sukhumvit district sweetened the deal as well. And even though hotel is in the 3000THB range it a price range most travelers can afford. Plus it always pays to take a look at a discount hotel reservation website and you may find a really good bargain like I did.
